Duplex stainless steel offers excellent resistance to corrosion and very high mechanical strength. The high corrosion resistance of duplex stainless steel ensures significantly more uptime than carbon steels and conventional stainless steels, while the mechanical strength allows for lighter constructions, a more compact system design and less welding.
An alternative to nickel alloys
Using our metallurgical expertise, we continue to achieve breakthroughs in the area of duplex stainless steel, adding more specialized, higher performance products to the program. SAF™ 2707 HD hyper-duplex stainless steel can, for example, serve as a very competitive alternative to expensive nickel alloys and high-alloy austenitic stainless steels in the most demanding applications, such as hot tropical seawater.
Our duplex stainless steel portfolio
We offer seven tubular grades of duplex steel contributing to product advantages in a wide range of applications.
SAF™ 2707 HD hyper-duplex stainless steel
SAF™ 2707 HD is a hyper-duplex stainless steel with a PRE value of min. 48*. The grade has very high resistance to chloride corrosion, combined with very high mechanical strength. SAF™ 2707 HD is particularly suited for use in aggressive acidic, chloride-containing environments.

SAF™ 3207 HD hyper-duplex stainless steel
SAF™ 3207 HD is a hyper-duplex stainless steel with a PRE value of min. 50* for service in highly corrosive conditions where also very high mechanical strength is required. This makes the grade ideal for use in deep-water umbilicals and a range of other oil and gas applications.

SAF™ 2507 super-duplex stainless steel
SAF™ 2507 is a super-duplex stainless steel with a PRE value of min. 42*. The grade has high corrosion resistance in chloride containing media, including seawater. SAF™ 2507 is well suited for use in, for example, organic acids.

SAF™ 2205 duplex stainless steel
SAF™ 2205 is a duplex stainless steel with PRE value of min. 35*. As a medium-alloy duplex stainless steel it has superior corrosion resistance in most media compared to the standard austenitic stainless steel ASTM 316L and twice the mechanical strength.

Sanmac® 2205 duplex stainless steel with improved machinability
Sanmac® 2205 is a machinability-improved version of SAF™ 2205. The grade offers excellent and consistent machining properties for increased cutting speeds, reduced tool wear and set-up times.

SAF™ 2304 lean duplex stainless steel
SAF™ 2304 is a lean duplex stainless steel that generally offers a similar corrosion resistance as ASTM 316L, but has advantages in oxidizing media such as nitric acid solutions due to its low molybdenum content.

Alleima® 3RE60 duplex stainless steel
Alleima® 3RE60 was the first modern duplex stainless steel with nitrogen added for improved welding properties. The material is used frequently in, for example, refineries with stress corrosion cracking (SCC) problems.

* PRE stands for pitting resistance equivalent and is defined as, in weight-%:
% Cr + 3.3 x % Mo + 16 x % N
The PRE values mentioned above are valid for tube and pipe.
