Heat exchanger tube

Tube, pipe, fittings and flanges

Our heat exchanger tube is designed for efficient energy transfer, reducing reliance on natural gas and electricity. We offer an extensive materials range, including austenitic stainless steels, duplex stainless steels, nickel alloys, titanium and zirconium, for use in all types of heat exchangers, such as seawater coolers, condensers, evaporators, heaters and reheaters.

Heat exchangers support efficiency

Net Zero is a key goal in combatting global warming, and we believe that heat exchanger (HX) tubing can play a vital role across many industries. By producing HX tubing in a sustainable way that lasts longer, resists corrosion, we can significantly extend the lifecycle of the heat exchanger. For example, our super-austenitic Sanicro® 35 offers a smart alternative to costly nickel alloys. Depending on your needs, other Sanicro or duplex grades are also available.

Key HX challenges

Heat exchanger tubes face several challenges that impact their performance and longevity.

  • Fouling: Accumulation of debris reduces heat transfer efficiency.
  • Corrosion: Degradation from fluid or environment leads to tube failure.
  • Erosion: High-velocity fluids wear away tube surfaces, causing leaks.
  • Thermal stresses: Expansion and contraction lead to fatigue and cracking.
  • Tube vibration: Fluid-induced vibrations cause wear and rupture.
  • Scaling: Mineral deposits reduce efficiency and increase pressure drop.
  • Pressure drops: High drops reduce system efficiency and increase energy costs.
  • Cracking and leakage: Mechanical stress causes cracks, leading to safety hazards.
  • High temperatures & creep: Prolonged exposure causes tube deformation.

Fully integrated production

To avoid plugging and downtime, our seamless stainless heat exchanger tube and alloys are produced to last and uphold the highest quality standards. The tube is made from 84% recycled steel using fossil-free electricity in a fully integrated production process, with 100% ultrasonic testing.

Wide range of dimensions

Our heat exchanger tube portfolio includes imperial and metric sizes, from outside diameter 12 mm up to 40 mm (0.472 to 1.575 in.). Special sizes can be made to order. Alleima heat exchanger tubes are supplied in straight lengths up to 30 meters, or as U-bent tubes.

Lower life-cycle cost with duplex stainless steels

Our portfolio of duplex stainless steels is the widest on the market. Duplex stainless steel heat exchanger tubes perform exceptionally well in a variety of environments and media common in process industries, resulting in lower life-cycle costs.

Sanicro® 35 (UNS NO8935)

Sanicro® 35 (UNS NO8935)

An alloy combining the best features of a super austenitic stainless steel and nickel alloy. It is a cost-efficient alternative to high nickel alloys, when the properties of a standard duplex or austenitic grade may be insufficient.

SAF™ 3006 (UNS S83071)

SAF™ 3006 (UNS S83071)

A new innovation for acidic environments. It is a high-alloy duplex (austenitic-ferritic) stainless steel that is tailored to enhance corrosion resistance in acid and caustic environments. Designed specifically for heat exchangers within the chemical and petrochemical industries.

Choosing the right material can advance the life of your heat exchanger

Heat exchangers are crucial in process industries. These include refineries, petrochemical, and chemical plants. They heat and cool process streams. They conserve energy in the plant and minimize additional heat from external sources by burning gas or oil or using electricity. The most common industrial heat exchanger is the shell-and-tube type.
